Message Minute (Setting Your Hope in God)

Parenting is one of life's most challenging and rewarding journeys. According to Psalm 78, godly parenting produces three outcomes: children who set their hope in God, who don't forget God's works, and who keep His commandments. This impacts their heart, mind, and actions. But let's be honest – parenting often leaves us feeling inadequate. Like John Ortberg described, we dream of creating magical moments with our children but often end the day disappointed in ourselves. The gap between our expectations and reality can lead to depression and defeat. Today, release yourself from the burden of perfect parenting. Remember that even God the Father had children (Adam and Eve) who rebelled in the garden. Not all undesirable behavior in your children can be attributed to poor parenting. God's grace covers your mistakes and fills the gaps.

Verse: "He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands." - Psalm 78:5-7

Reflection Question: In what areas of parenting do you feel most inadequate, and how can you invite God into those spaces today?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting these precious children to my care. When I feel inadequate, remind me that You are the perfect parent who continues to work in their lives beyond my imperfections. Help me to set my hope in You rather than in my parenting abilities. In Jesus' name, Amen.
