Message Minute (The Gift of Presence)

In the earliest years of childhood, children need our nurturing presence. Play isn't just a frivolous activity for young kids—it's how they experiment with different possibilities, learn how to get along with others, and develop self-confidence. When we make time to play with our children, we see them in new ways and communicate our love in their language. Research has shown that while fathers estimated spending 15-20 minutes daily interacting with their small children, the actual average was just 37 seconds! Children spell love T-I-M-E, which often costs more than M-O-N-E-Y. As Robert Schuller once said, "I chose to fail at golf because I wanted to succeed as a father." Jesus modeled this prioritization of children, taking time to bless them even when His disciples thought they were a bother. Today, consider how you can be fully present with your children, even if just for short periods of focused attention.

Verse: "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left." - Matthew 19:14-15

Reflection Question: What activity could you engage in today that would allow you to be fully present with your child in a way that communicates your love and care?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for modeling how to welcome and bless children. Help me to be intentional with my time and fully present when I'm with my children. Show me how to put down distractions and engage in their world. The days are long but the years are short—help me treasure this time. Amen.
