Message Minute (Words That Shape a Life)

God the Father is the archetype of good parenting. At Jesus' baptism and transfiguration, He spoke words over His Son that every child longs to hear from their parents: words of love, delight, pride, and affirmation.
Today, consider how you can follow the Father's example with these practical applications:
1.Tell your child you love and delight in them! Experts say that to develop healthy self-esteem, children must sense deep love from their parents. Don't assume they know—tell them repeatedly.2.Tell your child you believe in them! Express confidence in their character and abilities. Affirm their potential and show trust in their decision-making, even before seeing much evidence for it.3.Tell your child you are proud of them! Every child seeks the affirmation and approval of their parents.4.Tell your child you are sorry when appropriate! It doesn't undermine your authority for your child to know you aren't perfect. What they need is a parent who models how to deal with mistakes—because they'll make them too.Remember, God loves your children even more than you do. He is intent on completing the job you did imperfectly, healing broken places, and letting them know He loves, believes in, and is proud of them.

Verse: "This is my Son, marked by my love, focus of my delight. Listen to him." - Matthew 17:5 (MSG)

Reflection Question: Which of these four affirmations do your children most need to hear from you today?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for modeling perfect parenting. Give me courage to speak words of life over my children—words of love, belief, pride, and when necessary, repentance. Thank You that Your grace fills in the gaps of my imperfect parenting. Help me to release my children into Your capable hands, trusting that You love them even more than I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
